Unless you've been living under a rock, Jan. 2, 2019 you may have heard about the new Glock 43X and Glock 48 that were officially announced. Over time, people jumped on social media platforms and expressed their views on the gun. Before actually seeing, handling or shooting one. I admit that I had my own opinions about both pistols when Glock announced them. At first glance, it doesn't seem like a handgun that would fit into my daily carry setup. But I love shiny new things, so I was eager to review one.

I assumed that I would meet him in person for the first time at the upcoming Shot Show 2019. But luckily I was able to review them this week. While I'm not happy to further increase my workload before heading to Vegas this Sunday, I couldn't turn down the opportunity to give the Glock 43X and Glock 48 a test run.
Glock Compensator 19/17/26
Initially, I was going to review each of these pistols separately, but they are so similar that I decided to combine them into one review. The difference is that the Glock 43X is the same length as the Glock 43 and the Glock 48 is the same length as the Glock 19.
First, I want to say that I am not a Glock fan. But I'm far from a cloak hater. I currently carry a Glock 19 MOS and a Glock 43 depending on what I'm wearing that day. But I recently switched to carrying a Glock in early 2018. Before that, I a Springfield Armory XT mod. I will leave the reason to another article. The XD has been my primary EDC since its release in 2014. Before switching to the XD, I carried a Glock 26, a Glock 23 and a Taurus PT-140, which was my primary carry gun until I broke it in a weekend pistol training class. .
I'm asking to show that I'm not married to a manufacturer or a gun. I have owned many Berettas and still enjoy shooting them to this day. I grew up shooting Berettas. The only handguns my dad owned were Berettas and a cowboy gun, I can't remember. I do not carry any of these or use them as my home defense guns. Shooting at the range is both nostalgic and fun for me.
With that, let's get to the actual review. There are specs for both the Glock 43X and Glock 48. I am also including some other popular handguns for comparison.
Glock 43 Vs 43x: A Face Off

Expanding on the success of the Glock 42 .380 and Glock 43 9mm, the Glock 43X and Glock 48 are both single-stack 9mm pistols. Glock classifies their Silver Slimline series. Both have the same grip length as the Glock 19 Compact. When I first saw the words "Glock 43X" I thought it might be a Glock 43 with a longer barrel and slide. But no, they lengthened the grip along the lines of the Glock 19X and kept the barrel and slide the same for the 43X. As for the Glock 48, it's essentially a slimmer, single-stack Glock 19.
Two other features are the silver nPVD coated slide and front bezel. It remains to be seen whether they will offer the pistols in black. The sights on both guns I received are standard factory polymer sights but are available with steel and night sights.
The grip structure is similar to the Glock 43, with elongated structures rather than the square (or pyramid) found on the Gen 4 and Gen 5 models. Although the Glock43X and Glock 48 are not Gen 5s, the magazines have the same orange followers as the Gen 5 models. One thing I noticed is that the 43X fits perfectly in the holsters I have for the Glock 43.

Even though I thought one of these pistols would fit into my concealed carry setup, I was still eager to get out at the range and shoot them. After meeting them in the morning, I went to the outdoor gun range near the house. I planned to shoot at least 250 rounds through each to see how they fired, check for malfunctions, and see if actually shooting any of them would change my mind. was About 250 rounds had been fired on both these pistols.
It was a relatively cool morning in Louisiana at 40 degrees. My fingers were already sore from a tough jiu-jitsu class the day before, so loading 500 rounds into 10-round magazines was no fun.
But I enjoyed shooting both pistols. Let me start by saying that I have had zero malfunctions with the Glock 43X and Glock 48. Both guns ran smoother and were more accurate than mine. I was quickly reminded why one of my 2019 resolutions is to go to the gun range to practice more often.
Do I want to shoot the G43X and G48 on the G43? yes But I enjoy shooting my G19 more than my G43 for the same reasons it allows you to get a full grip. The Glock 48 doesn't feel as nimble as a shorter barrel like the G43X. Interestingly, I seemed to shoot the G43X better than the 48. While I enjoyed the 43X and 48, I shot my G19 with the Trijicon RMR Type 2 and quickly realized how much I enjoyed my favorite EDC shooting. That seems right to me.

So it boils down to a Glock 43 with a larger grip (Glock 43X) and a single stock Glock 19 (Glock 48). As I said before, I don't think any of these will replace what I'm currently taking. The Glock 48 has no accessory rail and seems too thin to fit the red dot, so I wouldn't trade my Glock 19 for a Glock 48 to get the 4mm less width. I can conceal my Glock 19 most of the time. When I can't, I carry my Glock 43. Also I carry a 43 because the grip causes my 19 to print in some wardrobe situations. So the 43X wouldn't interest me.
Everyone had different preferences and needs, so what worked for me might not work for the next person. My wife recently started shooting last year and to my surprise she really enjoys it. Of all my handguns, he felt perfect for him in the Springfield Armory XTs. So I did a quick test with him. I asked him to hold my G19 to see what it was like. Then I let him hold the G48 and as I thought, he really liked the feel of it. The single stock pistol fits his small hands well.
She currently does not carry concealed but likes to shoot at the range so I think the Glock 48 would be the perfect gun for her. She can achieve a full grip without using the pinky extension, which allows her more rounds. And the G48 gives him a long barrel, which isn't as cumbersome as a short subcompact barrel. So with his birthday coming up soon, I think Glock will get my money back.
