P365 Xl Review - The SIG Sauer P365XL 9mm is no longer "breaking news" as it has been on the market for about 3 months. Its popularity has grown tremendously, even though the original P365 broke the mold for what people believed a carry gun could hold and achieve. The P365XL 9mm looks to improve that as well. In this TFB review we take a look at the new to market but already incredibly popular SIG Sauer P365XL 9mm that I spent the better part of last summer with to get a better idea of what this column is all about. Was spent moving and shooting. about everything.
I had the privilege of being able to check out the SIG Sauer P365XL 9mm back at the NRA Annual Meeting (NRAAM) in Indianapolis last April before it was scheduled to be revealed to the public in early July this summer. While I didn't have a chance to shoot the pistol at the time, I could already tell that SIG had created something that would subvert people's perception of what is possible with a carry gun (again). P365 Xl Review
It's hard to understand what a firearm is all about by reading the spec sheet, but there are some key differences to note between the P365XL 9mm and the original P365. For one, you get a lighting kit for the brand new Romeo Zero, or RMSC Red Dot. You also get the signature X-RAY3 day/night sight, while the P365 has a simple three-dot white dot sight kit. If they're considering adding a P365XL 9mm to their arsenal, SIG Sauer explains a few key points:

The P365 redefined what a concealed carry gun should be, now the new P365 XL is doing it again. The perfect balance between tiny concealability and full-size shootability The P365 XL packs 12+1 or available 15+1 capacity in a tiny, highly concealable size while still maintaining the comfort and shootability of a full-size Is pistol. The first P365 introduced in the X-Series family, the XL comes standard with an extended slide, 3.7” barrel and the all-new 365 X-Series grip unit with extended beavertail and integrated magwell. The new slide and grip unit adds just 1/2″ to the overall length and height of the tiny P365, but increases capacity to 12+1 rounds of 9mm. It still retains the crisp, clean P365 trigger force, but with the signature "X" flat profile trigger that breaks at 90 degrees. Also included are the Signature X-Ray3 Day/Night Sights standard with a rear sight plate assembly that allows direct mounting of the new SIG SAUER RomeoZero or RMSc reflex optics. Never has so much versatility and capability been squeezed into a perfectly concealable size.
After officially unwrapping my test gun a few months ago to begin this review, this was my second encounter with the P365XL 9mm. So I had forgotten some of its features and was quickly cheered up. The obvious difference is the size increase. The pistol's dimensions include the barrel and slide as well as its frame and magazine. It gives you the feel of a full-sized pistol, but with a smaller width, it's easy to conceal at the same time.
While the original P365 felt a bit heavy in my hands, the P365XL is very well balanced. With a 12-round or extended 15-round magazine, the pistol not only gives you a full grip, but also has a natural balance that many carry guns can't achieve. I appreciate this as it increases your ability to shoot with confidence when more balanced.
It wasn't just a unique field trip when I took this column to the field. I took this column to the game several times over the summer. I did everything an experienced shooter could think of to practice hitting the steel, shooting silhouettes, practicing magazine changes and drawing from the holster.

My biggest impression was that this firearm shoots like a full size pistol. It may have been derived from carry gun origins, but honestly handles, works and hits like a full size pistol. The fact that it's easy to hide to boot is a useful feature that we would all benefit from.
I consider myself to have medium sized hands and I could easily attach a full grip to the frame of this pistol. This made the pistol easier to handle and gave me a lot of confidence. It was also easier to reduce and control the transfer of recoil. All of this ended up making this column a lot of fun to shoot.
As for a few aesthetic points on the P365XL 9mm, I appreciated the stud on the pistol's frame as well as the extended 15-round magazine. It was like a fine grain of sandpaper that provided a secure hold without being abrasive to the point where you lose your skin. A beavertail built into the back of the frame and a shallow undercut below the trigger allow you to grip a little more than you would on a comparably sized pistol. It enjoys the feel of a smooth low-bore shaft that aids quick follow-up shots and reduces recoil.
The only thing I had trouble with was looking at the ROMEOZero Micro Red Dot I had installed above. This could be my fault for not having much experience with SIG Sauer firearms, but it took 10 mags or so before I could shoot the red dot fast enough. So for those new to SIG Sauer pistols, getting comfortable with "pointing" may take a bit of a learning curve.
P365xl Spectre Comp Initial Review
While all I wanted to do with this gun was burn it out on shot steel, paper bullets, bowling pins, or whatever else I could get my hands on, I know that the P365XL 9mm's origins are a carry gun. Despite being slightly longer in grip and slide than the original P365, it's still a formidable contender for being an everyday EDC pistol. That being said, I've had it on and off with regular EDC over the last 2 months.
Galco KingTuk Deluxe IWB (Inside the Waistband) Holster (KT838B) Ready with RomeoZero Micro Red Dot Paired with SIG Sauer P365XL 9mm
I used the ever-popular Galco KingTuck holster, which worked great for my everyday days working behind the gun counter and making light work of unloading product from semi-trucks in our stores. In the days I wore a camp polo (not a tuck) I chose to go the Kingtuk route. The long polo easily covered this pair, which I wear widely; Actually on the right buttock because I'm right handed. The neat thing about the P365XL 9mm is that it fits most common P365 cases. I don't want to make a sweeping statement that it will work in everyone, but the 3 or 4 I tried did just fine, even with the ROMEOZero Micro Red Dot and the longer 15 round magazine. All in all, comfortable to carry like this, reasonably easy to draw (not lickety-split fast, but decent), and much easier to carry than my mainstay EDC which is a full-frame polymer gun.

Sig P365 Xl: 15+1 Gym Shorts Gun
The other way I carried the P365XL 9mm was also from Galco with the added IWB holster because I had those available for use at work. While IWB carry is more comfortable for bending, moving, and doing everyday tasks, I prefer the IWB attachment for the secure feel and faster draw.
With the addition of IWB carry, I've never had any spidey-sense feelings about the gun ever tipping over. With a remote IWB, if I'm straightening up my socks and shelves, I can feel my shirt opening and
I understand that a lot of this is in my head, but because of this, the Annex IWB has always felt closer and safer to me. On the other hand, if you drive a lot or work in a sitting position for long periods of time, dropping the gun below your stomach and cradling your groin can be uncomfortable. There's a tradeoff between positives and negatives that isn't necessarily the SIG P365XL's fault. That's the grip I have on any gun under these conditions, so it's something to think about for those considering carrying out there.
My final thoughts on the Carry for the P365XL 9mm is that it was very easy to conceal. as easy as, if not more than, most
