P365xl Vs P365 - So I had quite a few questions about which firearm I would carry if given the chance between the regular P365 and the P365 XL. Don't worry, you'll get a definitive answer to that question later, but I had to include the X-Compact as a twist because not many people see how capable the gun is for the size. If you haven't seen TFB TV's review of the P365 XL, I highly recommend checking it out. I expected to get the same conclusion that James thought he would, and I was just as wrong as he was. Note that this is not a guide to go out and buy a gun based on what I write. I always encourage people to go out and test guns to form their own thoughts rather than going by what some random guy on the internet says is great.
When I first heard about the X-Compact, I thought it was just another variant of the P320 X series and didn't have high expectations for it. Shooting with the X-Compact completely changed my perception and I practically fell in love with it after the first magazine. The X-Compact feels different from most compact handguns because it is significantly smaller than a Glock 19 or CZ P10C. It has the same capacity as its larger competitors, but has a much smaller footprint when hidden under a shirt. The X-Compact is the largest gun of the three, but it's by far the most fun to shoot at range and the easiest to control.
P365xl Vs P365
The sight is the SIG X-Ray Tritium night sight that comes standard on most Legion series pistols with a large front dot and dark rear sights. It is already cut for a SIG optic and is the only pistol of the three that has a standard Picatinny rail. It will take an assortment of aftermarket lights and I ran the X-Compact a bit with an Inforce APLc. It was a compact pistol light, but something like the Surefire XC1 would be just as capable.

The P365 XL is by far the newest addition to SIG's concealed carry lineup and certainly has its rightful place in the 365 family. Specs are slightly larger and 2 ounces heavier, but the feel of the gun changes completely with the small difference in grip and glide length. It shoots much flatter than the standard P365, and I consistently shot better with the XL than the standard P365. The XL is easier to handle because it has a larger grip and as a result the shooter can get a full grip purchase on the firearm. The longer slide also gives the shooter a longer sight range, which contributes to better accuracy.
I took all three guns out for a range session the other day and put around 500 rounds through each model. The 500 rounds through the XL were controllable and surprisingly accurate for its overall size. The flat trigger feels good and has a shorter duration than the standard model, and the scope is very easy to use with the XL. It had very clean brass with consistent extraction patterns and spacing. I thoroughly enjoyed my long range session with the SIG P365 XL and can easily see why there is so much buzz about the firearm.
So this is more of a summary than an actual rewrite of P365. I wrote my 18 month review later last month and the gun performed flawlessly for me. I have a very early version of the gun and its exact birthday is January 28, 2018. The gun has spent a lot of time on my hip in an IWB holster over the summers and has always been 100% reliable with all types of ammo for me. Although the pistol is relatively small for its capacity, the P365 is one of the most controllable firearms in its size group.
Personally, the P365 is easier to shoot than something like the Glock 43 or Ruger LC9, but that's just my opinion. It may be the least controllable of the three options on this list, but the P365 can still paper impressively sized groups for me at 7 yards. I don't think there is anything on the market that is easier to hide when wearing summer clothes, which is very comfortable when it's hot outside.

So what is my recommendation? It's a hard question to answer, to be honest. I like the size of the XL and it's a great gun out of the cartridges I've done so far. If I don't own one yet, I'd have to go with the P365 XL over the other two just because it does everything really well. It has 12 rounds as standard capacity, and extended 15-round magazines are also an option. I really enjoyed shooting it over the course of an afternoon.
Now the problem I'm facing is that I already own a P365 and it's been a great companion for me for the past year and a half. I'm planning to buy another smaller framed pistol for concealed carry and honestly can't stop thinking about the X-Compact. It shoots great in my hands and I really liked how capable it is for the size. I think the P365 XL is a good gun, but personally the X-Compact is what I plan to buy next. In early June 2019, several major retailers began listing SIG Sauer OEM 15 magazines on their websites. Of course they were sold out and a picture was missing. Just a post, but there were rumors that something big was coming.
Finally, the SIGP365XL made its way into the collective industry. Several dealers leaked the information and I contacted my friends at SIG for an official announcement and they were happy to give me the spec sheet.
The SIG P365XL hasn't been released yet, so I compared it based on experience with the P365 and similar guns like the Glock 48. What's interesting is that the G48 and G43X are both more or less a response to the capacity of the P365 mags.
But they have much longer grips. SIG seems to have wanted to show them off once again with the 365 XL.
Sig Sauer P365/p365xl Pocket Kydex Holster
Both the SIG P365 and P365 XL feature the famous Sig P365 Nitron finish. The Nitron finish is a robust and reliable finish that does an excellent job of resisting corrosion and abrasion. The finish is strong and I can attest to that with a lot of use on my personal P365.
It is matte black but has a gray tint to it. It looks professional and is applied with attention to details.
There are no clear signs of where the finish is applied or unevenness in application. It's smooth and looks great. SIG uses stainless steel as the metal under the Nitron finish so you have a strong second layer of corrosion resistance.
The black polymer frame is well built and there are molded plastic spots to show where the mold joins.
Sig Sauer's P365xl Gun: Better Than A Glock?
The slide is labeled P365, and on the XL variant you'll also see an XL label. The black polymer bezel also has the vertically descending SIG SAUER name, which I really like. Like the P320 series, the P365 uses an internal chassis that allows you to remove the "firearm" from the grip module.
This allows you to change frames and even buy custom frames with different finishes. This is a simple system that works and seems to work well. This can also allow you to run a standard SIG P365 slide on a P365X frame and vice versa.
This is the category that will settle the Sig P365 XL VS Sig P365 debate for most of you.
